Shillong: Meghalaya’s first five-star hotel – the erstwhile Crowborough Hotel – which was left ‘abandoned’ for 36 years, will be inaugurated as Taj Vivanta, Shillong.
According to local media reports, the hotel is likely to be inaugurated before the Durga Puja celebrations.
The Crowborough hotel, named Taj Vivanta Shillong, is expected to open on September 27 or 28.
According to reports, the hotel is awaiting a green signal from the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) for its opening.
The hotel will be operated under the Vivanta brand by Tata Group-backed Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL).
Located in the heart of Shillong city, this hotel has a total of 100 rooms.
The hotel consists of eight economy rooms, 58 standard rooms, 30 deluxe rooms, five suites, a banquet hall and a coffee shop.
The hotel will employ around 150 people in various capacities.
The Crowborough Hotel was first proposed in 1987 and the concept has been in the news for the past three-and-a-half decades due to innumerable delays in the completion of construction works.
