Meghalaya Chief Minister Expects ‘Cross Voting’ In Presidential Elections

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said he expects “cross-voting” from opposition Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLAs in the state in favor of NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu.

All MDA legislators will vote in favor of Murmu. However, the two alliance legislators will not participate in the election process due to their previous engagements outside the state,”.  Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma Sangma told news agency UNI.
It is noteworthy that the TMC has announced its support to the joint opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha.

Presidential elections are conducted by ballot paper and the voters are MLAs and MPs, who will put their ballot paper in the ballot box.

Elections for the next President of India will be held on Monday.

Counting of votes will be done on Thursday.

After the polls are over, the ballot box will be taken to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat in New Delhi for counting and subsequent declaration of the result.

“We also expect cross-voting from the opposition in favor of the NDA presidential candidate,” the Meghalaya chief minister said.
However, Meghalaya TMC president and MLA Charles Pangroup said there was no possibility of cross-voting.

“We have made our stand very clear and there will be no cross-voting from our side,” Pingroup asserted.
