Meghalaya: 18-year-old Tamil Nadu table tennis player killed in road accident in Ri-Bhoi
Guwahati: Two people, including an 18-year-old table tennis player from Tamil Nadu, were killed and three others injured in a road accident in Meghalaya’s Bhoi district on Sunday.
Table tennis player Vishwa Deenadayalan and the driver of the taxi in which he was traveling died after being hit by a truck.
Three of Vishwa Deenadayalan’s accomplices, identified as Ramesh Santosh Kumar, Abinash Prasannaji Srinivasan and Kishore Kumar, were also seriously injured in the accident.
He has been admitted to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Shillong.
The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) said in a statement that Vishwa was traveling from Guwahati to Shillong with three teammates for the 83rd Senior National and Interstate Table Tennis Championships, which started on Monday.
A TTFI release said, “A 12-wheeled trailer, coming from the opposite direction, collided with a taxi at Shangbangla just after the shoe and tamarind check post from the road divider, and fell into a ravine.”
