Media organizations call off strike
Imphal: Media outlets in Manipur have called off a strike launched by a student body against “unnecessary interference” in news production.
Journalists from various Media organizations call off strike and resumed their daily news coverage from Thursday.
The decision to end the strike has been taken by the aggrieved media houses after a meeting held on Wednesday.
The meeting was held between representatives of All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU), Editors Guild Manipur and Manipur Hill Journalists.
Media outlets in Manipur were staging sit-in protests over alleged “unnecessary interference” by the student body in news production.
Manipur’s media began protesting when a student body raised objections to the publication of a news story.
“Interference in media work has always been there in the state. The media community wants a permanent solution to such authoritarian behavior from any group so that the press can continue its work without fear,” said senior Manipur journalist Braun Nongmatham. told PTI.
