Agartala: Ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) – an ally of the BJP – has suffered a major setback.
Senior IPFT member and Ashrambari MLA Mayur Kumar Jamiat has resigned as a legislator.
On Tuesday, the Jamiat submitted its resignation to Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Ratan Chakraborty.
Former IPFT president and former Tripura minister Mayur Kumar is likely to join the Jamiat’s Tipra.
The number of IPFTs in Tripura Assembly has reduced to just 5 after Mayur Kumar resigned as Jamiat MLA.
Earlier, IPFT leader Dhananjay Tripura also resigned as MLA and joined Tipra.
In the month of September, BJP leader Barba Mohan Tripura also resigned as MLA and joined Tipra.
Jamiat is the seventh MLA to quit the ruling BJP-IPFT alliance in Tripura.
