Mass protest held against SoO extension between Kuki and GoI

Imphal: The people of Imphal East today held a public rally against the extension of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) between the Government of India and Kuki groups.
The protest was jointly organized by the Village Protection Force. United Committee of Pukhao and Makeng Dolaithabi Gram Panchayat and Eramdam Kanba Lup (EKA) Imphal East.

The protest rally was started from Sambei Ground in Khundrakpam Constituency under Imphal East.

The protestors had planned to destine their rally till Governor Bungalow and submit a memorandum, however, Manipur Police personnel obstruct to move further at Pangei Bazaar leading to a confrontation with protestors for some time.

The protestors further moved ahead but they couldn’t proceed from the 6th IRB post as an additional number of Rapid Action Forces controlled them.

But later, a selective number of protestors went to submit their memorandum to the chief minister and governor.

President of United Committee of Pukhao and Makeng Dolaithabi Gram Panchayat Thokchom Sanjoy said that the agreement of SoO signed between GoI and Kuki groups will finish on February 29.

He said that with the help of Kuki groups who are under SoO, illegal immigrants are attempting to disintegrate the state by demanding separate administration.
