Manipur’s Shiroi Lily Fair: Tangkhuls exhibits ‘Tricycle Race Track’
Ukhrul: Manipur’s Shiroi Lily Fair: Tangkhuls exhibits ‘Tricycle Race Track’ .The state-level Shirui Lilli Mela in Ukhrul district of Manipur is presenting various activities ranging from art, culture and rock musical carnival.
Events during the festival include live music concerts, folk performances, traditional dances, indigenous games and competitions, art and craft exhibitions, ethnic food items, adventure activities and more.
The festival also highlighted the traditional games of the Tangkhul community, including the traditional Grand Prix competition, locally known as Thing gari (wooden tricycle race track).
Noatbly, the Tangkhuls are a major ethnic group living in Manipur’s Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
“The tricycle race track competition is aimed to promote and raise awareness on the traditional games that were practiced since the ancestral times,” said Ramrak, Headman of Langdang village, one of the judges at the competition.
A total of 14 participants from across the region took part in the competition, which was held in Sherwai village.
There is a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 for the winner, Rs. 8,000 for the second and Rs. 6,000 for the third place. And the rest of the participants will be given satisfactory prizes of Rs. 3000.
During the competition, all participants were dressed in traditional attire.
The fourth edition of the state-level Shirui Lily Festival kicked off on May 25 at the Vangayan Heritage Center in Shirui Village, Ukhrul District, Manipur.
This festival is celebrated every year in Manipur and its aim is to raise awareness about this rare flower and to promote sustainable and responsible tourism in the state.
