Manipur:In Imphal Kangla Nongpok Thong opens for public

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday handed over and dedicated the historic Kangla Nongpok Thong – the eastern gate of Kangla Fort – to the people of the state.

The function was held in the presence of Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba, ministers, MLAs, various senior officials and local people of the area.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, CM Singh said Kangla Nongpok Thong was one of the 21 projects recently inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to the state last week. He said it was a matter of great pride and honor that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown such concern and recognition to a small state like Manipur for reopening Nongpok Thong, tweeting, “Hopefully That the spirit of peace, prosperity and happiness may increase throughout the state.”
After its re-opening, Nongpok Thong will be monitored by IRB officials while Nongchup Thong (West Gate) will remain closed, the chief minister added. He also said that the area adjacent to the east gate would be developed to create a unique feel towards the historic Kangla. He added that the approach road towards the gate will be converted into a double lane road soon.
Stating that we all should remain one and united, CM Singh said that the government was doing everything possible for peace, prosperity and unity in the state. He appreciated the efforts of MPHC engineers and officials for completing the project on time.

Nongpok Thong was constructed by Imphal Smart City Limited (ISCL) as the funding agency and Manipur Police Housing Corporation Limited (MPHC Limited) as the work agency.
