Imphal: Assam Rifles troops recovered 23.4200 kg of banned WY bullets worth around Rs 12.60 crore in the international market at Mora in Manipur along the Indo-Myanmar border early on Monday, officials said.
A defense statement said the Morah Battalion of the Assam Rifles foiled cross-border drug smuggling at Dalpati Ground (near Border Pillar 79) in Moreh.
During a routine area patrol conducted by the Mora Battalion at Dalpati Ground, the team spotted two suspicious persons trying to cross the India-Myanmar border with a plastic sack.
Challenged by the team, the men immediately abandoned the sack and fled back into Myanmar territory under the cover of darkness.
“On detailed search of the area, a plastic sack was recovered. It contained 20 packets of WY pills weighing 23.4200 kg. The value of seized WY pills is estimated at Rs 12.60 crore in the international market.
The statement added that the recovered items have been handed over to Mora police station for further investigation and action.
