Manipur: Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday appealed to the people of Manipur, especially women, to lead the way to bring peace and harmony to the beautiful land of Manipur.
“As a mother I understand your pain and I appeal to your good conscience to guide you,” she added.
In a video message, Sonia Gandhi addressed the people of Manipur as brothers and sisters.
She said that Manipur has witnessed a great human tragedy for almost 50 days and the unprecedented violence that has destroyed the lives of people in the state and uprooted thousands has left our nation reeling. It has left a deep wound on conscience.
Expressing her condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones, she said, “I am deeply saddened to see that people are forced to flee the only place they call home and that all Some leave behind what they have built in a lifetime. Breaking the testimony of our brothers and sisters who have peacefully turned against each other.”
Stating that Manipur’s history testifies to its capacity to embrace people of all races, religions and backgrounds and the immense potential of a diverse society, she said that the spirit of brotherhood was fostered by Trust and goodwill are needed, and a single mistake to fan the flames of hatred and division.
“We are at a critical crossroads today,” she said, adding that our choice to walk the path to healing will shape the kind of future our children will inherit.
Hoping that in the weeks and months to come, the people of Manipur will embark on a long journey of rebuilding trust and emerge stronger from this ordeal, she said. Refuge is hope and faith and I know that together we will overcome this ordeal.”
