Manipur water crisis relieved with first seasonal rains

Imphal: A sudden lightning strike in northwestern Manipur followed by loud thunder followed by light rain in various parts of the state, including Imphal, on Wednesday – the first monsoon to relieve the state of water crisis. It has been delivered. Have been experimenting for several days.
The monsoon season starts around the month of July and lasts till September, officials said. Rainfall in Manipur is a bit unpredictable with irregular shower spells covering the entire state. Monsoon season is usually accompanied by strong winds and temperatures become slightly cooler.
Amid light rain and partly gusty winds across the state, the first day of this rainy season is clouded by rain clouds. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rains and thundershowers in the state throughout the week, officials said.
People of the state have been worshiping the rain god for days as rivers, lakes, reservoirs and wetlands across the state have almost dried up.

The people of valley and hills are facing almost water crisis even though the government has claimed that some areas of Imphal East district have been supplied with drinking water till date by Thoubal Multi-Purpose Dam through Chingnunghood Reservoir.
Imphal city is facing a water crisis due to the drying up of the Singada multi-purpose dam which is supplying drinking water to the city’s residents. But the first rain of the season will bring relief to the people who have been suffering from water crisis for the past several days.
