Manipur: UNLF freedom-fighter captured in Kakching

Imphal: A freedom-fighter of the banned United National Liberation Front, (UNLF) was nabbed in an operation in the southern part of the state and later handed over to the Manipur Police for further action, a defense wing said in the press statement.

Assam Rifles (South) Headquarters Inspector General Phunderi Battalion in cooperation with Manipur Police on Tuesday arrested the UNLF freedom-fighter from a hideout in Umathel Bazar of Waikhong in Kakching district.
Based on specific intelligence inputs received about the presence of suspected UNLF freedom-fighters in the Umatil market of Waikhong in Kakching District, southern part of the state, a joint operation was launched by the Phunderi Battalion and commando representative of Waikhong Police Station. As a result of which this apprehension was expressed. A fighter of UNLF, self-styled Sergeant Major Hemam Nungshiba alias Maniton hails from Umathel Bazar.
The arrested freedom-fighter was extensively involved in the illegal activities of the banned group in the district.
