Manipur: Distressed by the volatile situation in the northeastern state of Manipur for the last 40 days, the North American Manipur Tribal Association along with allied partners will hold a vigil and rally to address the urgent issues faced by the minority community, especially the Kuki-Zomi people in Manipur on 22 June and 24 June 2023.
The vigil and rally will be held on the US Capitol grounds and the White House (Lafayette Park), respectively.
“We request your presence to collectively call attention and call on the United States government, and the United Nations to extend their support by providing immediate humanitarian assistance to the displaced people in Manipur,” he said. A statement from NAMTA said.
The tribal organization even criticized the Meitei community, alleging that their rights to freedom of religion, right to life, physical integrity, freedom of movement, housing and security were usurped by radical elements allegedly belonging to the Meitei community.
He even criticized the community, saying that since May 3, 2023, Kuki-Zomi villages have been attacked by mostly Mete militants, allegedly with the help of state police commandos. , with humanitarian assistance provided by the State Government of Manipur nor the Central Government of India”, the statement added.
NAMTA has appealed to all concerned to stand in solidarity with the tribal community of Manipur and advocate President’s Rule (Article 356) in Manipur.
