Imphal: Assam Rifles and Manipur Police have arrested a freedom-fighter belonging to the banned insurgent outfit People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) in Thoubal district in a joint operation, police said on Saturday.
Acting on specific information about the search of some PREPAK members in Phundrei area of Thoubal district of Manipur, a joint team of commandos of Manipur Police and Assam Rifles forces on Friday night, an official said. launched a joint operation.
During the operation, a staunch fighter of PREPAK identified as Manglem Meiteis Budhi, 36, was arrested from a hideout in Phundrei Awang Leikai village, about 37 km from Imphal, he said.
A .32 pistol, a magazine and two rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession.
The arrested rebel is the son of N Kalama Meitei, a resident of Heroic Part III Ngarouthen Khuman Leikai district of Thoubal.
The arrested fighter is being interrogated by the police.
