Imphal: Four suspected freedom fighters of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Noyon Group) were nabbed in Manipur on Wednesday.
The accused were allegedly involved in arms and ammunition transportation and extortion activities in the valley areas.
They were nabbed along with weapons, four mobile handsets and a car, officials said.
The police said that during the last 36 hours, arrests and seizures were made at various places in the valley.
During a mobile check at Meitei Lamkhai, Langathbal near Lilong bridge in Imphal West district, the arrest of one of his cadres later identified as Wahengbam Mathoi Singh (32) led to the arrest of the rest.
The on-the-spot interrogations of the first arrest managed to nab his associates namely Sorenshangbam Bungcha Singh (47), Thongam Joynanda Singh(49), and Ak Sanjoy (34), the police said.
They were arrested at different locations in the southern parts of the state during the past 36 hours.
From their interrogation police established that they were directly involved in the extortion from the general public for raising funds for KCP (Noyon) and transport of arms and ammunition from place to place.
One pistol, two grenades, and a car recovered from them.
The arrested cadres along with the seized items were later handed over to the Singjamei Police Station for taking up further necessary legal procedures, the police added.
