Imphal: The Manipur state cabinet has decided to hold elections for rural and urban local bodies in March and April 2023 respectively. The Cabinet also decided to hold the third session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly on February 2, 2023.
Speaking to mediapersons on Tuesday, Minister for Health and Information and Public Relations Dr. Sapim Ranjan Singh said in a cabinet meeting late on Monday evening that the urban and rural local body elections would be held in the month of March and early April the decision was made.
The Minister also informed that the Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections will be held only after the delimitation process is completed.
Minister Ranjan further said that extension or re-joining of service of some senior government officials has been accepted based on their performance and requirements in the department.
He added that the Joint Secretary of Revenue, Chief Engineer of MHPDCL, Joint Secretary of Home, and Chief Engineer of OBEDS were among those whose services have been extended by the Cabinet.
Minister Ranjan, who is also the spokesperson of the state government, further informed that the cabinet has filled 62 different posts in Manipur AIDS Control Society, 97 posts in Pediatric Care Center, 18 posts for RIMS through NHM, Relief and Disaster Management. It has also been approved. 90 Section Officers in PWD, 98 SOs and 50 MTS in PHED, 10 Drivers in GAD on daily wage basis and 67 posts in Forensic Science Lab. The cabinet has also approved to waive the recruitment of constables, head constables and constables.
The Cabinet also decided to launch the Chief Minister’s Entrepreneurship Support Scheme to encourage interested entrepreneurs of the state with 30 percent subsidy from the government. Startup Scheme 0.2 will also be launched. The Cabinet has also approved the opening of a Sainik School in Bishnupur on PPP model. The Cabinet discussed 46 listed agenda items, some of which were in disagreement. Ranjan added that some unlisted agendas were also discussed during the meeting.
