Manipur liberation groups pay tribute to three fallen heroes
Imphal: The combined armed forces of six liberation groups in Manipur—KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK(Pro), RPF/PLA, and UNLF—held a solemn ceremony yesterday to pay tribute to three of their fallen soldiers.
The militants, identified as Captain Oinam Gulu (alias Babu) of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Captain Wahengbam Saratkumar (alias Sopaiba) of PREPAK (Pro), and Lance Corporal Nongmaithem Boneysana (alias Nongdon), were honored by their respective groups during the event.
In a statement, Assistant Publicity Secretary of PREPAK (Progressive), L. Ningsingba, emphasized that the sacrifice of these three revolutionaries has forged a path of unity among the insurgent groups, who are fighting for what they describe as the liberation of Manipur.
Ningsingba noted that the ceremony was a reflection of the collective grief shared by the six groups and the families of the fallen soldiers.
The fighters were killed in an intense encounter with combined forces of the KNF(B) and Indian security forces, reportedly in an area under Kuki militia control.
The region remains a hotspot for clashes between insurgent factions and government forces, as India continues its efforts to stabilize the area amid the ongoing insurgency.
The six liberation seeking groups reiterated their commitment to their cause and extended condolences to the families and relatives of the fallen militants, vowing to continue their struggle for Manipur’s liberation.
