Imphal: In a successful joint operation by the Manipur Police and their Assam counterparts, a 13-year-old minor girl from Manipur, who went missing from her residence in Thoubal district last year, was rescued on Sunday.
Joint forces tracked down the girl and her private tutor Thokchom Kennedy in Tezpur in central Assam.
Kenedy, a father of two, of Khangabok Lamdaibung in Thoubal district, was taken to Thoubal police station along with the girl.
On Monday, the girl was handed over to her family while Kenedy was produced in a local court and remanded in police custody.
The incident took place on December 15, 2022, when the Grade 8 student of Khangabok Higher Secondary School was allegedly lured and abducted by Kenedy from her residence in Hayellabuk village, Thoubal District.
A complaint was lodged the next day at Thoubal Women’s Police Station, prompting the formation of a Joint Action Committee (JAC) which set a deadline of January 2, 2023, and the state if the girl was not recovered. Threatened to start violent protests across the country.
