Imphal: The Manipur government has reportedly declared the entire state as a ‘disturbed area’ due to the prevailing law and order situation.
19 specific police station areas have not been included in the declaration.
“Violent activities of various extremist/insurgent groups warrant the deployment of armed forces to assist the civil administration throughout the state of Manipur,” the state government said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has extended the application of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) for another six months in certain areas of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
In Arunachal Pradesh, the following districts and police station areas have been declared as ‘troubled areas’ under AFSPA: Tirap, Changlang, and Longding districts as well as Namsai, Mahadeopur, and Chowkham police stations in Namsai district. Along with the areas under the jurisdiction of the stations.
This declaration is effective from October 1, 2023, and will remain valid for a period of six months, unless earlier withdrawn.
In Nagaland, the following districts and police station areas have been declared as ‘troubled areas’ under AFSPA: Dimapur, Newland, Chumoukedima, Mon, Kiphire, Nauklik, Phek, and Peren districts as well as various other districts. In the jurisdiction of certain police stations.
This extension is also effective from October 1, 2023, and will remain in effect for six months unless withdrawn earlier.
