Imphal: The Manipur government has strengthen its war against drugs in the state and more forces are joining the drive to eradicate the menace of drugs in the state.
On Thursday, Chief Minister N Biren Singh brought together the Assam Rifles, NIA, NCB, NAB, Police and Home Department to discuss issues and strategies to combat the drug menace at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal.
“We are joining forces to strengthen the ‘War on Drugs’ campaign and will leave no stone unturned to uproot this scourge from the state. I appeal to the people of the state to support this campaign with all seriousness and commitment and to contribute more. We must protect our youth from drugs and leave a better future for future generations,” CM Brain Singh posted on Facebook.
Earlier, on Monday, a joint team of Imphal East Police and NAB, along with the Forest Department and BSF, launched a poppy-destroying drive in Manipur NP Khullen and B Gamnom hill ranges.
According to an official report, the joint team destroyed the poppy plants, which were grown in an area of about 30 acres, and efforts are on to arrest the illegal poppy growers.
A case has been registered at Thoubal Dam police station for further investigation.
Similarly, security forces foiled cross-border smuggling of narcotics and seized WY pills worth Rs 12.60 crore in the border town of Moreh.
