Manipur: Congress files FIR against state BYJM chief after attack on party office

Imphal: Manipur Congress has filed an FIR against the president of Manipur unit of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).

The Manipur Congress files FIR has alleged that Manipur BJYM workers led by the organization’s chief M Baresh Sharma attacked its office.

The Manipur Congress alleged that its office was attacked by BJYM workers when members of the organization were protesting against Sonia Gandhi.

mmediately after the incident, the Manipur Congress workers congregated and marched towards Imphal city police station to register an FIR.

Notably, BJYM is the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“We are giving 24 hours to Imphal City Police for registration of FIR against those who attacked Congress Bhavan in Imphal. If FIR is not registered by police, we will move the Hon’ble High Court of Manipur,” Manipur Congress leader Bhupenda Meitei said.

A video of the incident has also gone viral on social media, in which young BJP members are seen shouting and threatening Manipur Congress workers.

In the complaint, the Manipur Congress said that BJP youth wing workers led by its president M Baresh Sharma came violently and forcibly entered the official premises of the Congress Bhawan in Imphal.

The Manipur Congress  files FIR alleged that the BJYM workers caused serious damage by vandalizing the office using dangerous methods including criminal interference, criminal intimidation, willful disturbance of public peace, destruction of property and fire.

They also assaulted and threatened the State Security personnel, who were guarding the Congress Bhavan office, thereby interfering and obstructing the official duty of the armed personnel of the State Government posted at the Congress Bhavan in Imphal, Manipur.
