Manipur: Congress demands a CBI probe into the alleged Rs 1,700 crore PMGSY scam.

New Delhi: The Congress on Thursday demanded a CBI probe into the alleged Rs 1,700 crore Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) scam in Manipur.

The party also demanded strict action against the ministers of Manipur government involved in corruption.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Manipur Congress chief K Meghachandra said the PMGSY “road scam” in Manipur is still being exposed by the Congress team under his leadership.

He said that a team of Congress leaders along with journalists has been visiting the interior of the hills in districts like Chorachandpur, Noni and Kamjong for the past few months.

Meghachandra alleged that after inspecting several roads, it was found that no work had been done despite allocating funds and completing their work in advance.
Under the brilliant twin-engine BJP government in Manipur, Rs 1,700 crore has been used for PMGSY, Manipur Congress spokesperson Nangumbam Bupenda Methi told reporters in New Delhi on Thursday.

State AICC in-charge Bhakta Charan Das alleged that the BJP had used the funds to contest the elections.

In his letter, the Manipur Congress chief said the Rs 1,700 crore “scam” should be investigated and justice should be served to the people.

He said that a CBI inquiry into the entire “PMGSY Road Scam” should be conducted and ministers concerned or involved should be released pending investigation.

Meghachander also demanded registration of an FIR against the minister or ministers, chief engineers, officials concerned, contractors, companies and middlemen or any other person involved.

The Congress also demanded recovery of all money which was withdrawn without execution of works on the land despite confirmation of completion of works on record.

He added that the contractors or companies involved should be blacklisted for a period of at least 10 years from being eligible to apply for any tender in any work across the country.
