Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday said that the state’s youth need to acquire skills in the Information and Technology (IT) sector to cope with the tremendous growth in the sector.
CM Biren was addressing the inaugural session of Capacity Building Conference on 5G held at Hotel Classic Grande in Imphal.
Singh continued that the state’s youth seemed reluctant towards the IT sector, adding that the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) opened in the state could not find any local students to take admission. He appealed to the parents and guardians to consider the importance of making their children aware of information technology, saying that the time is for the IT sector.
Maintaining that the state is making great strides in all areas of development, he added that leveraging telecom infrastructure for better governance is an integral part of the comprehensive development strategy of the state government. The state government is providing full support and assistance for creating digital infrastructure in Manipur. He further said that initiatives like BharatNet are being implemented in the state to transform the rural masses by providing affordable and equal access to internet.
The Chief Minister said that 360 villages of the state have been included under the 4G Saturation project to provide 4G mobile services to the uncovered villages in remote and difficult areas. He said that a proposal is being prepared to include additional 833 exposed villages. He continued that the IT Department of the State Government is monitoring the performance of 1000+ active CSCs in the State along with CSC- Special Purpose Vehicle. Based on their performance, an incentive program was implemented to encourage CSCs to provide services in remote areas, he added.
Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the 5G services in India last month to boost the future of connectivity in the country, CM Brin said that various initiatives for the successful rollout of 5G services in the state are also underway. is doing He said that a working committee on 5G had been formed and the amendment of Manipur Right of Way Policy 2019 to incorporate 5G policies was also taken up.
He expressed that building strong and resilient connectivity infrastructure in the state is critical, given the state’s strategic location that connects India to some of the world’s most economically dynamic and politically important geographies.
The Chief Minister also hoped that the talks and discussions held at today’s conference would help the state move towards a smooth and speedy rollout of 5G.
Delivering his speech, Chief Secretary Dr. Rajesh Kumar said that the capacity building conference was organized to inform the officials on how to facilitate seamless rollout of 5G in Manipur. He mentioned that the Chief Minister has directed to ensure full cooperation for saturation of 4G which is very important. He recalled the Prime Minister’s statement that no pocket in India would be left without 4G services in 500 days.
He added that under the supervision of the Chief Minister, the state government would strive to make Imphal one of the fastest 5G rollout cities. He continued that the intention is to use the 5G service for advanced activities such as telemedicine and teleeducation. He added that it is time to ensure that all blocks and subdivisions have 5G services by December 2023.
