Imphal: After much uproar, Chief Minister N Biren Singh finally withdrew his resignation as thousands of women from various women’s organizations stopped the Manipur Governor from submitting his resignation on Friday.
On hearing of the possibility of N Brien’s resignation, these women gathered in front of the CM’s secretariat from 11 am, vowing to prevent his departure.
As Biren’s convoy tried to leave the Secretariat and head towards the Raj Bhavan to present his resignation, thousands of protesting women quickly intercepted and blocked his progress.
Forced to reconsider, Biren’s convoy is forced to turn back and head back to the Secretariat due to the women’s determined actions.
Under mounting pressure from committed women, the chief minister’s resignation letter was later publicly submitted by Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, ministers Govindas Konthoujam, Th Basanta, and L Susindro, as well as BJP MLAs.
Minister El Susindro read out the contents of the resignation letter, after which two female volunteers symbolically tore it up in front of the gathered crowd.

After the leaked resignation letter surfaced online, Chief Minister Biren Singh on Friday evening made it clear that he would not be resigning.

The women justified their actions by saying that given the ongoing unrest in Manipur, it was not the right time for the chief minister to resign.

He emphasized that Biren should consider it his duty to restore peace in the state. “We will not allow him to resign. Instead, Biren should take the initiative to resolve the crisis,” declared one of the female protesters.
Apart from blocking the resignation of the chief minister, the women protesters also opposed the five-day complete shutdown of Khwairamband Bazar, which was announced by an organization.

They were of the view that the market should remain open in the light of the war-like situation to prevent economic collapse.
One of the protesters stressed the importance of supporting elected representatives in solving problems through political means instead of resorting to attacks. She added, “This is not the time to create conflict among ourselves; this is the time to unite.”
Meanwhile, the curfew relaxation hours in Imphal East and Imphal West have been reduced to 5 am to 2 pm, as against 5 am to 7 pm earlier.
Kakching Bazar women shopkeepers under the Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association (KBWA) also protested to prevent Chief Minister N Biren from resigning from her post in front of Ibudhou Naohallai Laibung at Kakching Bazar on National Highway 137(A).
KBBWA president Nongmaithem Sanatomba @ Chaoton said the CM cannot resign from his post leaving the state in chaos. The President added that he should use all his might to restore peace and normalcy in the state and protect innocent citizens from kuki militants.
