World champion judoka Linthoi

15-year-old world champion judoka Linthoi has created history by winning home gold after finishing number one on the podium in the women’s 57kg event at the recently concluded World Cadet Judo Championships in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Her feat is India’s first gold medal in any age category at the World Judo Championships. Besides his family, Mayang Imphal ACMLA Kongkham Robindro, Thanga ACMLA Tongbram Robindro Singh, Moirang ACMLA Thongam Shanti and their coach also attended the felicitation program.
On Tuesday, world champion judoka Linthoi received a warm welcome from her family, friends and well-wishers on her arrival at the Imphal airport.

Born to farmer parents living in Mayang Imphal and one of three daughters, Linthui is one of the few judokas in the country who is part of the Union Sports Ministry’s flagship ‘Target Olympic Podium (TOP)’ scheme. The TOPS program is primarily for elite athletes, who are considered medal prospects at the Olympics.
For the past five years, the young judoka from Manipur has been training hard at the JSW-Inspire Institute of Sports in Bellary, Karnataka under head coach Mamuka Kizilashvili, one of Georgia’s top coaches in judo.
