Imphal: Manipur death rises to 56. Another body of a local woman was recovered from the debris of a landslide in Manipur’s Nooni district on Sunday by a search and rescue operation team, official sources said.
According to sources, the recovered body has been identified as 27-year-old Thuisinliu Gondaimei. She was among the 79 confirmed victims of the tragic landslide at the Makhuam Railway construction camp on June 30, including her husband Lungpilan Gondaimi and three other locals.
However, her husband and four others are still missing after 18 days of search and rescue operations launched after the disaster.
So far, the search and rescue team has recovered 56 bodies buried under the debris of the landslide, while 18 injured have been safely evacuated from the disaster site.
More than 700 personnel of NDRF, SDRF, Police, Fire Services, Territorial Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF and local volunteers are engaged in the rescue operation. The team continued its operation till the 18th day with the help of more than 30 heavy machinery to search for the five missing persons from the spot.

A review meeting on the ongoing search and rescue operations was scheduled to be held on Saturday by Disaster and Relief Management Minister Awangbow Newmai. However, the meeting has been postponed till Monday. Till then, the search and rescue team will continue its operation to find the remaining missing victims, official sources added.
