Manipur: Armed fighters opened fire on MPP leader residence

Imphal: At least six suspected fighters opened fire at the residence of a lawyer and Manipur People’s Party (MPP) party presidential candidate.

The incident took place at Basikhong Makha Leikai in Manipur’s Imphal district, police said.

The MPP presidential candidate has been identified as Ningolbam Ojit Meiti (62).

The fighters fired two shots into the air before threatening Matti’s sister with dire consequences if the MPP leader contests the party’s presidential election.
After that, they fled the spot on three two-wheelers – an Activa, a scooter, and a Yamaha bike as quickly as possible.

This is the second time in less than two days that armed men attacked Ojit’s house, N Anandi Devi told reporters that on January 11, some armed men also came to her house and searched for Ojit.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police said that an empty case of 9 mm pistol was recovered at the gate of N Ojit.

A case has also been registered and efforts are on to nab those responsible for the attacks.
