Manipur: 5 locals, 1 policeman injured in clash over land survey for mega food park

Imphal: At least five people and an assistant sub-inspector of Kakching police were injured in a clash between locals and police in Manipur on Friday.
Sources said that locals were injured after the police used tear gas.
According to a local resident, the incident took place along the Imphal-Moreh National Highway at Sora in Kakching District when Survey Department officials along with local police personnel came to survey the land for construction of a mega food park project. Were In Yaithibi Loukol.
The clashes erupted when some locals from Suraj of Kakching district and Koijam Marang village of Tengnoupal district opposed the demarcation of land by the authorities.
As the locals shared, they insisted that the process be resumed once a mutual understanding was reached. Authorities, however, ignored the proposal, which led to the clash, they claimed.
It should be noted that this is not the first time that the villagers of the affected area have protested against the government’s attempt to conduct a land survey.
