Manipur: 4-day Shirui Lily festival kicks off in Ukhrul

Ukhrul: The fourth four-day edition of the state-level Sherui Lily Festival kicked off on Wednesday at the Wangian Heritage Center in Sherui village, Ukhruldistrict, Manipur. The festival is being held after a gap of two years due to COVID-19 epidemics.
Manipur Governor LaGuardian and Chief Minister Ann Baron Singh attended the inaugural function of the festival as special guests and president respectively.
The festival is organized by the tourism department in collaboration with the Ukhrul district administration and the Sherwai village authority.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Ganesan, who is visiting the village for the first time, praised the state government for making Manipur’s state flower Shroi Lily a brand.
Governor Ganesan said that Shroi Lily Festival is celebrated every year in Manipur and it presents music, traditional sports and other cultural activities with the aim of raising awareness about this rare flower and making Manipur sustainable and responsible. To promote tourism. “Because of its rarity, it is now a popular flower,” he said.

This flower is found only on the top of Shiroi hill in Ukhrul district of Manipur.
