Manipur: 380 kg cannabis seized in Kangpokpi district, 1 arrested

Imphal: Manipur police on Friday seized at least 10 bags of explosives containing cannabis in Kangpokpi district, an official said.

According to official reports, based on credible reports of bags of marijuana being kept in a rented house in Govajang, Lhungtin, a team from the Cycle Police Station rushed to the scene and recovered the suspected contraband around 7:30 p.m.

The search of the house was carried out under the overall supervision of Officer-in-Charge of Cycle PS, Inspector Suresh Anthony and Kangpokpi SP Amrita Sinha.

District SP Sinha said that during the search, the team found illicit cannabis in ten explosive bags, which resulted in ten separate large transparent polythene bags from the spot weighing about 380.44 kg.

He said that one person has also been arrested in connection with this case. The arrested person has been identified as Shyam Basnett, 58, a resident of Kanglatombi.

The officer further said that after interrogation, with the help of Sekmai police station, 44 grams of opium in two boxes of tobacco was also recovered from his possession.
