Imphal: Three drug smugglers – two women and a man – were arrested with two kilograms of high grade opium, 3 mobile handsets and some incriminating documents in Putsingbum Manning village of Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Sunday night, police said. said here on Monday.
Based on reliable information about the movement of prohibited drugs, Bishnopur Police Commandos, Women Police of Bishnopur Police Station, and Assam Rifles conducted a joint search and check at Potsingbum Manning. Police said that during the search, 2 kg of opium was seized from the alleged smugglers.
The contraband was packed in two plastic bags with “sweet toast” and “bright detergent” written on the cover. Three mobile handsets and some incriminating documents have been recovered from them.
During initial interrogation, the arrested persons revealed that one Deon Singh, a resident of Malom near Imphal airport, had delivered the contraband to them on Friday, police said.
The arrested persons Warpam Reshma Devi, T Nani Jo, and Pakrambam Shyam Singh were handed over to Bishnopur Police Station for further necessary action along with the seized items.
Police added that a case has been registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
