Guwahati: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of North East Frontier Railway has arrested a prime accused in the death of a woman in a train compartment at Kamakhya railway station on Thursday. Sources said that the woman was found unconscious inside the railway coach on August 16 but was declared brought dead on arrival at the nearby railway hospital in Kamakhya.
On August 16, around 2:37 pm, a 45-year-old woman named Pompi Sharma Haloi was found unconscious inside a compartment of train number 15619 (Gaya-Kamakhaya Express) near the toilet when the train reached Kamakhya station. She was declared dead on arrival after being taken to the nearest railway hospital.
In response, a team comprising RPF and Government Railway Police (GRP) launched an investigation. According to the NFR, the RPF team discovered that the woman’s valuables, including jewelery and her mobile phone, were missing. They kept the IMEI number of the missing phone on alert, which helped them track the suspect when he tried to use the phone, a press release from the NFR said.
Using signal data recovery (SDR) and social media, they obtained a picture of a person using a new SIM card. Local sources also provided information to confirm the suspect’s identity.
On August 24, the team arrested the suspect based on live location tracking near Kamakhya railway station, NFR said.
