Lt. Gen. Kalita says that the Indian Army is fully prepared to deal with any situation on the Chinese border.

Guwahati: The overall situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with Chinese border in the eastern theater is “reasonably calm” and “firmly under control”, Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita has said.

Lt Gen Kalita said that the Indian Army is fully prepared to deal with any situation.
He said the Indian Army is focused on enhancing its military capability and monitoring the activities of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) along the LAC.

The commander said the region remained stable and “no major change of position or clear change was noted” amid the ongoing face-off between Indian and Chinese troops at the friction points of Demchok and Depsang in eastern Chinese border Ladakh, the commander said.

He said the Army is now in a better position to monitor its area of interest in the eastern theater with the enhancement of infrastructure near the LAC and the addition of various platforms like drones, helicopters and electronic surveillance equipment.

The eastern theater largely consists of the border areas along the LAC in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh and there are several sensitive forward areas in the border areas including Tawang and North Sikkim sectors.

Lt Gen Kalita said that the Indian Army is constantly monitoring the activities of the PLA along the LAC and is fully prepared to mitigate any challenge.

“We are also continuously monitoring the activities on the borders. We are vigilant and observing every development on our borders,” he said.

After the East Ladakh standoff that began on May 5, 2020, India is accelerating infrastructure development along the nearly 3,500 km LAC.

“We have prepared ourselves well over time and are fully prepared to defuse any challenge and situation in the Eastern theatre,” Lt Gen Kalita said.

The Eastern Army Commander was in Kebithu to attend a function where the military station was named after General Rawat.

People familiar with the development said the two sides disengaged as planned, including joint verification of the entire process.
