
Lt. Col letter to Chandel DC, 718 Myanmarese entered in the state
Imphal: As junta forces intensify their crackdown on resistance forces’ hideouts along the India-Myanmar border with airstrikes, Manipur has seen a rapid influx of illegal immigrants from the restive country.The issue has raised fears of keeping the district administration and security forces on their toes in Manipur state.
In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Manipur’s Chandel district, Lt. Col. Venkata Ravi Kiran J, raising the issue of illegal immigration, said that a total of 718 fresh refugees entered the general area of New Lajang in Chandel district on July 23 due to ongoing clashes in Khampat, Myanmar.
According to the military officer, from July 22 to 13, illegal immigrants arrived at New Lodging with 2 men, 03 women and 8 children.
On the other hand, on July 23, the district witnessed a large influx of Myanmar nationals with 301 people entering India.
According to Lt. Col. Venkata Ravi Karan J, 38 illegal immigrants arrived in Bonse, 89 arrived in New Samtal, 230 arrived in New Lajang, 143 arrived at Yangnomphai village, 175 arrived at Yangnomphai saw mill and 30 arrived at Aivomjang village.
It may be mentioned here that out of 718 citizens, 209 are men, 208 are women and 301 are children.
