Guwahati: Several communal posters reading, “Assamese domination won’t be tolerated. Long live Miya,” were found pasted on the doors of shops in Assam’s Chirang district on the night of Monday.
The posters, put up late at night by an unknown group of people, that contained anti-Assamese and anti-Hindu messages creating a sense of tension in Vhetagaon, Bijni. The posters had statements like, “Assamese domination won’t be tolerated. Long live Miya.
Down with Hindus,” along with threats that any oppression against the Miya communities would lead to unrest in Assam.
The spotting of such inflammatory posters has caused significant concern among the local residents, who are now fearing communal unrest in the area.
The Bijni police immediately arrived at the spot and confiscated the posters, following which they initiated an investigation into the matter.
Local MLA Ajay Kumar Roy and Chirang district Trinamool Congress President Anirban Sen visited the site, and demanded swift action from the police to arrest those responsible for this act.
