Law & Legislative Affairs Minister says No burial in disputed land

Imphal: The High Court of Manipur has issued an order on August 3 in Public Interest Litigation (PIL) No. 33 of 2023 (International Meeteis Forum vs. State of Manipur & ors), wherein the State and Central Governments, law enforcers Institutions that do, and both are instructed. People to maintain the status quo of the disputed land.
The court has also urged the authorities to take effective measures to control the law and order situation around the land in question.
In light of the ongoing dispute, the Court has further directed the Central and State Governments as well as respondents Nos. 11 and 12 and any aggrieved parties to engage in an effort to reach an amicable settlement.
Private respondents and representatives of the Kuki-Zo community have been given liberty to apply for allotment of land for burial within one week.
During a media briefing at the auditorium of DIPR, Manipur, Minister for Law and Legislative Affairs, Th. Basantlumar Singh highlighted the letter of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai. The letter called upon all parties concerned to maintain peace and communal harmony.
The Government of India has expressed its commitment to resolve the issue of last rites of those who lost their lives in communal violence in Manipur within seven days.
Minister Th. Basantkumar appealed to the public to get authentic information and avoid relying on rumours. Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh, Minister for Information and Public Relations (IPR), Manipur, accompanied the Education Minister during the press briefing.
