Imphal: The Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) has strongly condemned an alleged physical scuffle involving participants of a Kuki rally in Tumnaopokpi Naga village. The incident, which reportedly occurred despite the presence of Central and State security personnel, involved the manhandling of SDSA leaders and volunteers who were peacefully demonstrating in the area.
The SDSA has questioned the motives and agenda of the rally organizers, the Kuki Students’ Organisation Sadar Hills (KSO-SH), accusing them of deliberately provoking the Southern Naga community by holding the rally in a Naga-inhabited area.
The association had previously appealed to KSO-SH to cease such activities to avoid tensions.
According to reports, rally participants were heard chanting slogans demanding the creation of a separate Kukiland, a move that the SDSA considers an unacceptable provocation. The association reaffirmed its opposition to the incorporation of Southern Senapati and Naga areas into Kangpokpi District by the previous government, a decision they do not recognize.
The SDSA also expressed its support for the United Naga Council’s (UNC) demand to reverse the creation of the new district.
The SDSA made it clear that any consequences arising from the incident at Tumnaopokpi Naga village would be the responsibility of KSO-SH, not the SDSA.
