Kuki leaders should not play politics over corpse, says COCOMI

Imphal: The Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has asked the Kuki leaders not to politicize the dead bodies.
In a press release, COCOMI said that just as all the dead of the Meitei groups are being buried in their native villages with due respect and recognition, the ITLF Kuki people should follow the same principles.
“Using state land is also a violation of laws and bringing everyone together to build a new mass grave in the ousted areas of Meitei villages will not only inflame the sentiments of the people on both sides but also be a sign of enmity. Bane. Two neighboring villages forever”, mentions the release.
Furthermore, COCOMI also strongly opposes the plan for mass burial of Kuki bodies in Torbang area and requests that all bodies be identified before cremation in their respective villages as required by law and that Citizenship should be verified.
The Union Home Ministry has appealed to the tribal body-Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) to postpone the last rites of those killed in the communal violence in Manipur to a later date.
In a letter, the GoI appealed to all concerned to maintain peace and communal harmony and assured that it would make every effort to resolve the said issue amicably within seven days to the satisfaction of all parties.
Meanwhile, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) has agreed to delay the burial of 35 people killed in state violence by another 5 days after a long deliberation on the Union Home Minister’s request.
