Kuki Inpi Manipur condemns state-sponsored attack in Jiribam
Imphal: Kuki Inpi Manipur, an apex body representing the Kuki community, issued a strong condemnation of what it described as a state-sponsored attack against Sejang and Mongbung villages in the Jiribam District.
The statement highlighted an alleged armed assault involving Meitei State Forces and Valley Based Insurgent Groups (VBIGs), including the Arambai Tenggol.
The Kuki Inpi expressed outrage over the alleged collusion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) with the Meitei militants, accusing the CRPF, under the command of Huidrom Premjit, DIG, of failing to maintain neutrality during the attacks. This incident reportedly resulted in the death of a CRPF jawan, adding to the tension and tragedy.
The Kuki Inpi’s statement underscored the severity of the situation, noting that the ongoing violence represented an ethnic persecution campaign endorsed by the Manipur state government and radical Meitei leadership. They stated that the sustained attacks severely disrupted the lives and safety of the Kuki-Zo community, forcing hundreds of villagers in Jiribam to flee and seek refuge in relief camps with over 45,000 Kuki-Zo people displaced from their homes due to the prolonged conflict.
In response to these events, the Kuki Inpi urgently called upon the Government of India to take immediate action to ensure the safety, security, and lasting peace for the Kuki-Zo people.
The Kuki Inpi demanded the withdrawal of all Meitei central armed forces from Kuki-Zo areas and the prohibition of Meitei state forces from operating in these regions. The continued presence of these forces was seen as exacerbating tensions and hindering efforts to restore peace.
The statement also named individuals such as Huidrom Premjit, DIG (Ops.) CRPF, and Nectar Sanjembam, SSP (Ops.), Manipur Police, for alleged misuse of their positions to target Kuki-Zo civilians.
Furthermore, the Kuki Inpi called for the establishment of a distinct administrative region for the Kuki-Zo people to ensure their security, representation, and autonomy, which were deemed crucial for achieving peace and stability in the region.
