Imphal: The General Headquarters of the Kuki Students Organization(KSO) has taken a strong stand, demanding a separate administration for Kuki-Zo people, citing their exhaustion from living with a community they accuse of rape and immoral culture.
The organisation’s claim comes in the wake of recent incidents of violence and abuse against the Kuki community, highlighting long-standing grievances.
In a strong statement, the student body allegedly pointed fingers at the Meitei community, particularly recalling the infamous Parbung gang-rape incident in 2006, where Kuki women were allegedly gang-raped at gunpoint by separatist Meitei militants in broad daylight.
They claim that such incidents and the alleged indifference of Meitei Chief Minister N Biren Singh towards the recent horrifying viral video of the Kuki Zo women have prompted them to demand a separate administration.
KSO criticized the handling of the recent viral video, saying that if the video had not been made public on social media, the suffering of Kuki-Zo women would have been silenced forever.
They also revealed that similar cases concealed by the Manipur government could come to light after the internet is restored, suggesting that the prolonged internet blackout in the state is a deliberate move to suppress information.
Further, the KSO expressed dismay at the lack of action against those involved in the molestation and murder of Kuki girls, citing an incident where Meira Paibis allegedly pushed Kuki girls into a radicalized Meitei mob.
They emphasized that such incidents are not isolated, and many others go unreported, bringing to the fore the fear and insecurity faced by the Kuki community.
Condemning the brutality against the Kuki community since May 3, the student organization demanded that the culprits be brought to justice under the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code. They asserted that they could no longer live with a community he considered immoral.
