Kohima: The quarter-final rounds of the ongoing Kohima Super Cup 2022 are set to take place on Saturday as eight teams have qualified for the league matches, knocking out nine teams’ dreams of winning the prestigious championship title.
Until Friday, matches were held on a knockout basis. League matches for the Cup, which starts in the quarter-finals, will be organized by Kohima Town Club (KTC). The top two teams from both groups will advance to the semi-finals after a three-match round.
The qualifying teams in Pool-A are New Market FC, Hurricane Boys Phesama, Sechü FC Academy, G Sports FC and in Pool-B are Barak FC, A Yhome FC, Magdaline Coaching FC, and Aphuyemi FC.
On Friday, Magdaline Coaching FC won the match 5-3 against Pro-D-OG’s FC. In the second match of the day, Apoemi FC defeated Naga Brothers 21-0.
This match recorded the first triple hat trick of the tournament through Aphuyemi FC’s Toka Achumi. Team captain Lironthung Lotha and the youngest player, 14-year-old Vinato Achumi , both scored one hat-trick in the match.
Earlier, Dupisa Pucho of Magdalen Coaching FC also scored a hat trick in the match against Pro-DOGK FC.
On Saturday, New Market FC will take on A Yhome FC at 11:30 AM and Sechü FC Academy will take on G Sports FC at 1:30 PM at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima.
