In a positive development, the All Assam Students Union (AASU) and the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) government in the Bodo Territorial Region (BTR) on March 22 discussed important issues in the Bodo heartland. Held a meeting to BTR chief Pramod Boro spoke exclusively to Media and expressed his views on the meeting and the issues discussed.
During the meeting, the AASU delegation submitted a memorandum of issues to the BTR government. Pramod Boro thanked the AASU for sharing various issues and assured them that the government is already playing an active role in solving the problems of not only the Bodos but all the communities in the BTR region. He acknowledged AASU’s commitment to the people of Assam and thanked them for their support.
The AASU delegation raised various issues, including land-related, education-related, language-related, employment-related, and university-related issues. Pramod Boro said that more and more issues are already in the process of being resolved, and some have already been resolved, awaiting implementation.
On language issues, he asserted that as a citizen of India, no one has the right to discriminate against any language in India, and he respects all mother tongues. Hindi, English, Bodo and Assamese will be used equally in Bodoland, and the problem of defacement of signboards with language will be addressed.
Talking about the recent news of Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO) demanding money in BTR, Pramod Boro said he has received the news but is not sure if it is KLO. He added that the council will not tolerate any demand or extortion in the region and the police is investigating the matter.
Pramod Boro said that the BTR government is very clear about its objectives and is doing what needs to be done for the betterment of the society. He urged all student unions and social organizations to support the government and share the problems faced by the people so that they can be solved on priority basis. The meeting was positive and set a good example of interaction and cooperation between the government and student unions for the betterment of BTR region.
