Assam: After nearly a decade in the 2014 Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) murder case, Dr. Deepmoni Saikia, the main accused, has been acquitted of the murder charges. A Dibrugarh court on Wednesday acquitted him of the murder charges while also convicting the ward boy who was involved in the case.
The court delivered this verdict nine years after Sarita Toshniwal, a medical student at AMCH, was brutally murdered by her senior and a ward boy on May 9, 2014 on the hospital premises.
Notably, the conspiracy to kill Sarita was hatched by a doctor, identified as Deepmoni Saikia, a second-year PG student in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at AMCH in April. and had enlisted the help of a ward boy, identified as Keru Mech. Follow the plan. Deepmoni and the deceased used to work together in the same department.
“Deepmoni and Saikia had a cordial relationship. But for the past few months they were not good. Deepmoni used to call Sarita on her mobile but she never answered. After being rejected by her, she took revenge. decided. He hatches a plan and enlists Caro’s help. He manipulates Caro by promising to make his job permanent. Even firing him if he refuses. also threatened,” the police said after arresting the accused.
“On May 8, Deepmoni was assigned night duty with Sarita, but she was absent due to illness. Sarita was alone on duty. A ward boy and a nurse were also on duty. Next morning (May 9), After the duty nurse leaves, Deepmoni and Keru commit the crime.
Police said that Keru tried to strangle Sarita in her sleep after which she started screaming loudly. Deepmoni then forcefully hangs her on the floor as she tries to break free.

Police added that the accused was not satisfied with killing her, so after committing the crime, he stripped the victim and molested her.
