Imphal: Two staunch freedom-fighters of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party – People’s War Group KCP (PWG) have been persuaded to surrender in the presence of Assam Rifles and police personnel.
They surrendered a .22 pistol, a .22 pistol magazine, ten live .22 rounds and two Chinese grenades, an official said on Monday.
According to a Defense Wing press statement, the Somsai Battalion under the command of Headquarters Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) succeeded in surrendering two active freedom-fighters of the KCP (PWG), with sustained operations.
They surrendered in the presence of the police at Somsai in Manipur’s Ukhrul on Sunday.
The tireless efforts of the Somsai Battalion of the Assam Rifles in Ukhrul district, bordering Myanmar in the east, have curbed subversive activities.
The new move was to convince the revolutionary freedom-fighters to join the mainstream which resulted in the possession of two active cadres of the KCP (PWG) with one .22 pistol, one Point 22 pistol magazine, ten live .22 rounds, and two Chinese handguns. Surrender was successful. grenade, the statement said.
The statement asserted that the surrender would not only help the freedom-fighters to leave illegally but also help rebuild their lives for change and reconciliation.
The surrendering freedom-fighters will be sent for a formal surrender ceremony organized by the Manipur government after completion of the formalities, the statement added.
The KCP (PWG) is a valley-based rebel organization demanding the restoration of Manipur’s independence in 1948.
It is noteworthy that the homecoming ceremony of 36 freedom-fighters of the Chin-Kuki Liberation Army (CKLA) and one freedom-fighter of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro) was held at the 1st Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall in Manipur on April 21. It was held in Imphal with Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh as Chief Guest.
