Imphal: The National People’s Party (NPP) on Friday said the party will be forced to review whether to continue with the current state government if it fails to restore normalcy as soon as possible.
NPP national vice-president Yumnam Joykumar Singh told the media at the state party office in Imphal, Imphal near Naoremthong on Friday that the NPP has declared its stand that the party will not take any action on the territorial integrity of Manipur will not compromise on price.
He added that the party has submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister regarding the ongoing crisis in Manipur and has urged for the return of normalcy as soon as possible.
He said that according to reports, some Kuki militants are involved in the crisis under Operation Suspension (SoO). He said that when the SoO agreement was signed with the central government, it was mentioned that if the militants violated the ground rules under the SoO agreement, the state and central forces would Strict action will be taken against.
Recalling the Sugnu incident, Joykumar alleged that the UKLF was involved in attacks on villagers in Sugnu area and it could not be claimed that the attack was carried out by Kuki village defense volunteers.
He said that the concerned authority should review the SoO agreement signed between the central government and the UKLF. He further said that if any violation of land laws is found, immediate action should be taken by canceling the contract.
He said that instead of providing relief goods, the state and central governments need to take immediate steps to provide houses to the homeless people in connection with the crisis.
About the peace committee formed by the home ministry to bring the situation back to normal in Manipur, he said some members of the committee have refused to participate.
He said that the peace committee which was formed to normalize the situation is like a stillborn child. He added that such committees need to be constituted with a smaller number of members, and it is not necessary to include 51 members.
As the state JD(U) expressed that the inclusion of its member in the peace committee was not recommended by the party, the NPP also nominated MLA Th Shanti for the committee. was not recommended as neither Shanti nor the party was informed in advance.
On the indefinite blockade along NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur), the Vice President said that the Union Home Minister should fulfill his assurance given during his visit to Manipur. Joykumar said that Amit Shah had announced that the blockade along NH-2 would be lifted within two days but the blockade is still on.
He said that the Valley was held to ransom on several occasions and the government should find a permanent solution by providing free passage. He appealed to the state and central government to play their due role to bring the situation back to normal in Manipur.
