Guwahati: CM of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday launched 17 projects worth Rs 853 crore in Jorhat district.
Sarma laid the foundation stone of these projects of various departments and said that once completed, these infrastructure ventures will give a new impetus to the development of Jorhat and its peripheral areas.
An official release said that Jorhat’s initiatives include “Bhumi Pujan” and laying of foundation stones of 17 projects with an “expenditure of Rs 853.15 crore”.
CM Sarma praised the social, cultural and academic potential of Jorhat and said that the state government has initiated these infrastructure projects to help the district preserve its traditions.
Some of these include Lachit Madam and Cultural Project at Rs 149.83 crore, a road between Jorhat and Komarbondha at Rs 269.05 crore, flyover at Komarbondha over railway line at Rs 78.27 crore, integrated DC office at Jorhat at Rs 49.62 crore and 50 crore for the District Sports Complex, a release said.
“For development, the state needs an enabling environment without the culture of ‘dharnas’ and ‘bandh’. If this pace of development initiatives continues for a decade, Assam is sure to be among the top five performers in the country. Will become one of the states.
The projects also include Bapuji Mini Stadium at Mariani at Rs 10.78 crore, Assam Women University’s Teok Campus at Rs 28.51 crore, and research initiatives to upgrade three ITIs into Centers of Excellence at Rs 15.11 crore.
An Independence Memorial Park within Jorhat Central Jail at a cost of Rs 134.91 crore, four substations of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited at a cost of Rs 44.41 crore and a Silk College at Titabor at a cost of Rs 22.41 crore will also be established.
