Guwahati: In a significant turn of events, the NSCN-KYA and ULFA-I have jointly issued a call for a “boycott and general strike” on January 26, Indian Republic Day.
“NSCN/GPRN and ULFA-I are fully alive to our stand and responsibilities. NSCN and ULFA-I said in a statement that joint struggle for the restoration of our sovereignty for the people of Nagas and Assam is our legitimate resistance and Their endurance, suffering, sacrifices and hope for freedom will never go in vain.
“Like every year, we appeal to all our dear citizens to exercise their birthright with great hope and support our call for boycott by refraining from imposed celebrations,” the statement added.
It further reads, “It would be beneficial to stay indoors and light candles in honor of the brave martyrs of our land.”
Both organizations have called for a boycott of Republic Day celebrations in Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
The NSCN and ULFA-I asserted their ongoing struggle for the sovereignty of the Nagas and Asom people. They urged to citizens to support the boycott by refraining from the imposed celebration.
“Celebrating Republic Day with full military force in one of the world’s most militarized regions is to instill fear of additional insecurity among the local population and revolutionaries alike,” the organizations said.
