Guwahati: “Is he (Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma) the new godfather of horse-trading and cross-voting?”
The question was posed by Assam Congress chief Bhupin Borah after a Jharkhand MLA filed an FIR alleging that three arrested party legislators from the state had allegedly lured him to the JMM-Congress in Jharkhand. Assam CM Himanta Biswa was invited to Guwahati to meet Sarma to discuss the supremacy of the government.
The Assam Congress chief further alleged, “Some (Congress) MLAs (of Jharkhand) were offered cash to do dirty work.
Notably, three Congress party MLAs from Jharkhand were arrested by the Bengal Police in Howrah after they were allegedly caught with a large stash of cash on Saturday.
On Sunday, a Congress MLA from Jharkhand filed a complaint against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for seizing cash worth crores of rupees from three party MLAs in Bengal.
In a complaint lodged against Sarma at Aragura police station in Ranchi, Congress MLA from Burma, Kumar Jamingal Singh, alleged that his colleagues arrested in Bengal accompanied him to meet the Assam chief minister in Guwahati. had said
Singh alleged that after toppling the JMM-Congress government in Jharkhand, he was promised a ministerial post and cash worth crores of rupees.
In his complaint, Singh alleged that he was asked by the arrested Congress MLAs from Jharkhand to come to Kolkata and leave together for Guwahati in Assam.
Apart from Rs 10 crore for each MLA, Jamtara MLA Irfan Ansari told them that he had been promised the post of health minister in the new BJP government.
“He assured me that Sarma is doing this with the blessings of BJP top shots sitting in Delhi,” Singh added in his letter.
However, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has denied the allegations and said that he has no knowledge as to why a complaint has been filed against him in this regard.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand Congress chief Rajesh Thakur has said that the northeastern state of Assam has, in recent times, become a hotbed for toppling non-BJP governments in the country.
The Jharkhand Congress chief said, “BJP is constantly plotting to topple the state governments in the country and conspiracies are being launched from Assam.”
