Thoubal: A large number of people staged a protest on the occasion of International Yoga Day, condemning Prime Minister Narendra Modi for keeping silent on the Manipur violence.
Protesters chanted slogans boycotting Yoga Day and burnt an effigy of PM Modi.
The protest was held on June 21 at Thoubal Mela Ground under Thoubal District.
Speaking to the media, one of the protesters said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is sending a message of peace and harmony to the world.” But he completely ignored the ongoing unrest in Manipur, which is a part of India, and which has been going on for the past 49 days.
“More than a hundred people have been killed, thousands injured while many are still missing. More than five thousand houses have been burned, more than fifty thousand people have been displaced,” Rizorio added.
“Yet the Prime Minister has failed to tweet a single tweet to express his condolences and has never uttered a single word.” Rizorio added.
The protest was organized by an organization called Thoubal Apanba Lub.
