
In clashes-hit Manipur ban on internet extended till October 31
Imphal: The Manipur government has extended the suspension of internet services till July 20 to prevent the spread of rumours, videos, images and messages, which could affect the law and order situation amid communal violence in the northeastern state. July 15.
The order came after the Director General of Police (DGP) in Manipur reported ongoing incidents of violence, assaults, arson and gunfights.
According to the order, it is feared that some anti-social elements may use the social media to disseminate images, hateful speeches and hateful video messages on a large scale, which may inflame public sentiments, thereby disrupting peace and stability. “This order has been issued to prevent any disturbance of law and order within the jurisdiction of the state of Manipur and will remain in force for another 5 (five) days.
This order of suspension shall take effect immediately from the time it shall take effect until 3:00 P.M. 20-07-2023,” was added in the order.
